"Yamaguchi University: Contributing to the community and the world by creating knowledge and fostering flexible talent."

Yamaguchi University is a mainstay university with nine faculties, eight graduate schools, and more than 10,000 students. It has over two hundred years of history, since its founding as the Yamaguchi Kodo school in 1815. It carries on the spirit of the Meiji Restoration to take on new worlds, and over 120,000 of its graduations have gone on to contribute all over Japan, and the world.
In the ”Tomorrow of the Yamaguchi University: Vision 2030”, we offer up as our core philosophy "Yamaguchi University: Contributing to the community and the world by creating knowledge and fostering flexible talent." In recent years, society has been changing faster and faster. Society 5.0, what we call a world where the IT space and human living space are integrated and highly informatized, is expected to bring about human-centered and affluent living. Ushering in Society 5.0 will require flexibility of thought and cross-disciplinary thinking, regardless of whether one is in the sciences or humanities.
Yamaguchi University offers STEAM education, which combines the five areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics in a program that values interdisciplinary approaches in creating a cycle of knowing and creating to foster just such talent. The Yamaguchi University Fund was established in 2015 to mark the university's 200th anniversary. With a focus on supporting students in their studies, the fund supports projects for educational and research activities as well as promoting international exchange and community contribution. We have been able to support many students and researchers through the generous donations of alumni, outside companies & organizations, student families, community members, faculty, and staff. In 2020 in particular, we were able to provide 100 million yen in emergency scholarships and tuition assistance to needy students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue supporting and enhancing the Yamaguchi University Fund so that our students, who will lead Japan into the future, will not give up on their dreams, and young researchers will be able to freely devote themselves to their work and contribute to society by sharing the fruits of their research with all.
We are grateful for the kindness and support we have received from so many thus far, and we look forward to ongoing cooperation going into the future.

President, Yamaguchi University
Yukio Tanizawa
